ALTITUDE: 700 to 2100 metres above Mean Sea Level.
AREA: 2132 sq. kms.
MAIN TOWNS: Kalpetta is the District Headquarters. Sultan Bathery and Mananthavady are the other towns.
CLIMATE: The district enjoys uniformly pleasant climate throughout the year. The period between Dec. and Feb. is rather chilly (avg. 150C ).
ANNUAL RAINFALL: Average over 2300 mm. Wayanad, like the rest of Kerala gets two Monsoons: the SW (Jun. - Sept.) and the NE (Oct. - Nov.). Lakkidi, the place which gets the highest rainfall in the state is in Wayanad.

Wayanad can be aptly called the abode of Kerala’s tribal population. The district, which forms an edge of the Deccan plateau of South India has a luxuriant forest cover and receives the maximum amount of annual rainfall compared to other regions of the State. Waterfall, mist covered valleys, spice plantations, hill ranges, wildlife sanctuaries, stone age sites are some of the popular attractions of Wayanad.
