Entry Regulations

  • Visitors are allowed only during the visiting hours

  • Duration of visiting is maximum 1.30hours

  • Permission is restricted to light vehicles only

  • Maximum number of visitors per vehicle is as per its permitted seating capacity

  • Visiting must be only with a tourist guide / forest personnel

  • The ecotourism centers are ‘plastic free zones’

  • Plastic materials are not allowed during the visit

  • Visitors must follow the rules and regulations

  • Confirmed visitors have to report 30 minutes prior to their reserved slot time, failing which their slot will be automatically cancelled.

LOCATION:  At the southern tip of the Deccan plateau; North-Kannur;
                   South- Malappuram; West-Kozhikode; North border-Coorg;South border-Mysore;                    Southeast border- Nilagiris.

ALTITUDE : 700 to 2100 metres above Mean Sea Level.

AREA        : 2132 sq. kms.

TOWNS    : Kalpetta is the District Headquarters. Sultan Bathery 

                  and Mananthavady are the other towns.

CLIMATE     : The district enjoys uniformly pleasant climate throughout the year.
                        The period  between Dec. and Feb. is rather chilly (avg. 150C ).

RAINFALL   : Average over 2300 mm.; gets 2 Monsoons: the SW (Jun - Sept) and the NE (Oct - Nov.).                                        Lakkidi (Wayanad) gets the highest rainfall in the state.

CROPS        :  Cardamom, Coffee, Pepper, Tea, and of late, Vanilla.

CLOTHING: Light summer clothes for most of the year. However between Dec. and Feb. it  is                                                   advisable to carry warm clothes.

LANGUAGE: Malayalam is the local language; English & Hindi are widely spoken and                                                                  understood. Kannada & Tamil are also understood towards border regions.
